Culture Dossier

About

“The people of this town are findin’ out what it’s all about. They’re growin’ up! And when everybody gets together like Steel’s gettin’ together tonight, where are you then?”

John Turturro  in The Cradle Will Rock

*Why this blog? because the days are going by and the needs of our minds and souls are not being met in this rushed, fast-paced life. This is a chronicle of a busy mother who finds solace and meaning in great humanistic achievements. Please join.

Culture. Bildung. Cultura.

If we were to be professorial, we’d turn to Latin, where colere means to cultivate, to tend to one’s mind as a field of possibilities. It is a word rife with vibrancy, where the action is created by — and for — people.
But we are not professors, we are like you, knowledge-hungry culture vultures trying to find meaning through great texts, great films, great art.
And that is why we present you with Culture Dossier, your notebook of current culture, your ground zero for the latest and greatest books, art, cinema, music and other forms of expression.
The dames at the Dossier know that art is a reflection of who were are — and where we are — as a people. At a time when a global recession is draining pocketbooks and stifling arts journalism around the world, we strive to fill the void in media coverage and provoke a discussion about these topics we believe to be so reflective of our global soul.

Make no mistake: This is a call to arms. We strive to do more than create buzz here. We strive to be catalysts and tastemakers who engage you in a passionate discussion of the arts that’s provocative enough to incite you to consume, create and encourage a flourishing arts movement in your community and around the world.

We want to push the envelope and get you to embrace something new. But like every revolutionary movement, we expect — and embrace — some pushback from you. Art is a sensory and emotional experience and we hope you’ll open our eyes to the mind-blowing works in your community that deserve to be found.

We need culture now more than ever. To embrace it is to find meaning through the exercise of free expression, no matter the medium. And we look forward to sparking that free expression with you, our readers and participants.

Welcome and we look forward to hearing from you.
